Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • Ten years of property and casualty experience with increasing roles of responsibility
  • Experience managing and leading a department or business unit preferred
  • Management experience involving multiple lines of business preferred
  • Professional insurance designations highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all regional operations to achieve profitable growth in assigned multi-state regions in alignment with corporate operating and strategic plans.
  • Manage all aspects of the plan including new and renewal business, appropriate rate levels, quality of the book of business, and key expenses in each department.
  • Accountable for regions middle market profitability, and drive growth in other business lines for multi-state region territory to ensure profitability in collaboration with Corporate Underwriting.
  • Identifies underrepresented geographical areas to maximize spread of risk.
  • Responsible for the overall management process of the assigned business operation/territory.
  • Regularly evaluates performance including key criteria, such as production growth, profitability, business mix, and retention.
  • Manage complex agency relationships for the region, working closely with agency partners and Sales & Distribution Management to ensure mutual success.
  • Evaluate market conditions, oversee appointments and evaluations/reviews, and make changes within the assigned territory as necessary to achieve objectives.
  • Oversee new agency appointments.
  • Provide strategic leadership across the region to achieve goals.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing a talent strategy, to attract, retain and grow internal talent.
  • Advance EMC’s diversity, equity and inclusion goals. Foster an innovative culture, including supporting new ideas and provide guidance on potential changes.
  • Foster an environment of collaboration within the team and with other teams and profit centers.
  • Function as trusted partner to entire C-level leadership team.
  • Oversee and accountable for the implementation of corporate underwriting strategies at regional level to ensure highly collaborative and fully aligned One EMC approach.
  • Ensure strong partnership with and use of corporate departments including Commercial Lines Underwriting, Claims, Loss Control, MarCom, Sales and Distribution, and Finance.
  • Work collaboratively across regions on agency relationships, specific account opportunities and underwriting appetites.
  • Integrate all EMC marketing efforts and successfully communicate the broader EMC value proposition to agents.
