Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, political science, communications, marketing, business administration, or related field and at least 3 years of public relations, community outreach, government affairs, communications or related experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn new computer software programs quickly
  • Strong organizational and managerial skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently while working under deadline constraints
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to act as a strong company ambassador in the community
  • Must be willing to travel throughout Central Hudson’s service territory to attend community events; Non-traditional work hours will be a regular occurrence
  • Valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Actively participates in events held by business and trade organizations to advance the Company’s interests and build mutually beneficial relationships between Central Hudson and our stakeholders
  • Fosters relationships with key elected officials in order to facilitate positive outcomes on legislative and constituent/customer issues
  • Engages with local stakeholders on regulatory or operational issues, as needed
  • Maintains regional and government affairs communications material and collateral in conjunction with Communications Department
  • Helps coordinate the company’s corporate contributions and other giving-related efforts
  • Actively engages with other departments within the corporation to provide support and value of their key objectives through community and political outreach
  • Coordinates and supports the awarding of the corporation’s economic development funds and works with local economic development partners to maximize the company’s efforts in this area
  • Provides support for storm restoration efforts

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within the electric and gas utility industry
  • Experience with fostering relationships with key elected officials
  • Have a strong understanding of the issues that are important in the utility business
  • Prior experience in community relations
