Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, medical assisting, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a referral coordination or patient access role.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare insurance processes.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems and other healthcare software.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate patient referrals to specialists, diagnostic services, and other healthcare providers.
  • Communicate with patients to provide information about referral appointments and procedures.
  • Verify patient insurance coverage and obtain necessary authorizations for referrals.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all referral activities.
  • Follow up with patients and providers to ensure referral appointments are scheduled and completed.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care and timely access to services.
  • Address any issues or delays in the referral process and work to resolve them promptly.
  • Provide support and education to patients regarding the referral process and any required documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements related to referrals.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of referral management protocols and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Spanish bilingual preferred
