Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, medical assisting, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a referral coordination or patient access role.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare insurance processes.
- Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems and other healthcare software.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate patient referrals to specialists, diagnostic services, and other healthcare providers.
- Communicate with patients to provide information about referral appointments and procedures.
- Verify patient insurance coverage and obtain necessary authorizations for referrals.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all referral activities.
- Follow up with patients and providers to ensure referral appointments are scheduled and completed.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care and timely access to services.
- Address any issues or delays in the referral process and work to resolve them promptly.
- Provide support and education to patients regarding the referral process and any required documentation.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements related to referrals.
- Assist with the development and implementation of referral management protocols and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Spanish bilingual preferred
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, medical assisting, or a related field preferred.
