Requirements

  • Registered as a radiation therapy technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or equivalent organization
  • Six months of experience in one or more specialized radiation therapy areas; OR equivalent education/experience.

Responsibilities

  • Administer radiation treatments, including stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), to canine and feline (and occasionally other species) patients under the supervision of a board‐certified veterinary radiation oncologist
  • Position patients of all sizes and shapes and accurately deliver the prescribed course of radiation therapy
  • Conduct plan Quality Assurance (QA)
  • Thorough documentation of cases
  • Help with planning Computed Tomography (CT) setups
  • Hold patients for anesthesia induction
  • Observe patients post anesthesia until they are awake
  • Assist with monitoring medical procedures (blood draws, obtaining small biopsies or fine needle aspirates of masses)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of experience as a Radiation Technologist
  • Training in dosimetry to help develop treatment plans (could be one year of on-the-job training in dosimetry under supervision or completion of a program in Medical Dosimetry recognized by the American Association of Medical Dosimetrists)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Desire to work with animals and owners of animals
  • Desire to work with veterinary technicians to help with patient care
  • Desire to work in a training atmosphere interacting with students and residents
