Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety engineering, chemical engineering, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Health and Safety, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH) are a plus.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in safety engineering or a related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety management systems, international fire code, electrical area classification, combustible dust management, and EPA requirements and industry-specific safety standards.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for Process Safety Management (PSM) and Health and Safety (H&S) regulatory compliance needs
  • Support development of EHS Management systems (ISO 14001/ISO 45001), standards, and procedures.
  • Interface between EHS and the powders group to assist in maintaining a safety culture on the manufacturing floor.
  • Participate in the development and execution of safety solutions in powder manufacturing that lead to reduction in health and safety risk.
  • Be the point of contact for operations to understand and mitigate safety concerns.
  • Conducting or participating in Process Hazard Analyses of various types, including WhatIf, HazOp, HazID, and/or FMEA
  • Lead and assist in the process hazard analysis (PHA). Identify and implement layers of production to ensure process safety.
  • Participate in process FMEA’s and quality gate reviews during the development process.
  • Recommending improvements in processes, design, procedures and operating equipment to minimize hazards
  • Assist with Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) for existing, new, or non-routine tasks performed by engineering, maintenance, and operations
  • Review, update, and develop LOTO procedures SOPs and P & IDs as it relates to PSM
  • Conduct site inspections and audits through risk assessments analyses to identify potential safety issues.
  • Participate in or lead Incident investigations, develop, implement, and manage corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure compliance with company’s safety and health standards, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes.
  • Develop and deliver EHS training programs need for engineers and operators in Powder Team.
  • Help develop and improve Emergency response and evacuation planning with EHS team.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports related to safety activities, incidents, and compliance in Powder team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience running a PSM program or working with a PSM-covered process is a plus.
  • Experience in powder handling process or chemical manufacturing is desired.
  • Having in-depth working knowledge of regulations including OSHA 1910 (including Subpart H, Subpart N, Subpart O) and EPA 40 CFR 68.
  • Proficiency in using safety management software and tools.
  • Air emission management, permitting, and controls experience is a plus.
  • ISO 14001/45001 implementation, certification, maintenance (preferred).
