Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience or advanced degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and collaborate with a team of UX, human factors (HFE), system designers and software designers to conceptualize, design, and iterate on products that empower clinicians and patients utilizing neurostimulation implants.
  • Maintain the UX/HFE program schedule, delegate responsibilities to individual team members.
  • Partner with functional management to ensure adequate resourcing and budget for program.
  • Facilitate working sessions, brainstorming, design reviews and collaborative design meetings.
  • Generate and maintain user personas, journey and experience maps, and contribute to definition of jobs to be done.
  • Design and conduct generative research with users, supporting the translation of user/customer needs into design concepts.
  • Design and conduct formative usability studies to ensure designs enable the safe and effective use of products.
  • Identify potential use errors and recommend design changes to mitigate.
  • Design and conduct usability validation studies to confirm safe and effective use of the product.
  • Design and conduct real world testing to ensure launched product has met user needs and supports an excellent user experience.
  • Work closely with the product development and marketing teams to ensure products support stakeholder needs.
  • Develop and support standard operating procedures and practices.
  • Be comfortable with frequent customer contact and demonstrate knowledge of the customer journey.
  • Consider technology, platforms, and architecture while applying human-centered techniques in design approaches.
  • Collaborate across Medtronic and the Industry to improve practices within the organization.
  • 25% or less domestic travel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in design/user experience/human factors or related field and experience in conducting user research, identifying insights and opportunities, and collaborating with cross-functional partners to design the user experience for products.
  • Experience designing and validating class III medical devices.
  • Experience working with devices involving both hardware and software preferred.
  • Experience leading UX designers and human factors teams working on complex development programs.
  • Experience using Figma, Miro, UX Research platforms such as Dovetail or Great Question.
  • Experience collaborating with external design firms.
