Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent; Master’s Degree preferred.
- Minimum of 9 years relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 7 years relevant experience.
Responsibilities
- Acting as first point of contact for Released Product Engineering in order to provide rapid response for line-down issues for consumable and capital robotics product lines.
- Coordinate between R&D subject matter experts and other Released Product Engineering counterparts.
- Maintain electromechanical products as relevant for capital and consumable products.
- Participate in hardware deliverables of the Change Development Process for capital medical equipment.
- Determine change impact on mechanical and/or electromechanical design and document rationales.
- Maintain bill of materials using product lifecycle management software (Agile).
- Perform structural analyses to inform design changes, evaluate product performance and safety.
- Compose engineering drawings, reports and presentations to document and communicate design deliverables and analyses.
- Collaborate with the Medtronic R&D new product development engineering team who will be responsible for designing, developing, and supporting the next generation of capital equipment for the minimally invasive surgical robotic platform.
- Interact and negotiate with contract manufacturers, suppliers, and external partners.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and mentorship to junior team members, with a primary focus on supporting those working on Consumables and Instrumentation within the ME team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Significant experience in the design and development of complex, dynamic electromechanical mechanisms and assemblies for production.
- Solid knowledge and experience with 3D CAD software (CREO preferred).
- Expertise in designing for manufacturability & assembly, creating engineering drawings for production, applying geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, selecting materials and performing tolerance stack analyses.
- Strong communication skills to effectively work with a variety of stakeholders.
- Be a team player who works well with others to achieve project goals and can proactively, and independently drive projects forward.
- Experience in all phases of the product development lifecycle including input creation, design, prototyping, verification, and transfer to production.
- Experience with typical manufacturing processes for production, including milling, turning, injection molding, thermoforming, MIM, casting, and sheet metal forming.
- Knowledge of kinematic analysis, stress analysis and FEA.
- Hands-on experience developing medical products is highly desired – regulatory and quality processes, safety considerations, and designing to meet IEC60601 testing.
- Experience in robotics is a plus.
- Experience integrating electronic components into mechanical assemblies and designing for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).
