Requirements
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in embedded systems development, with at least 2 years serving in an architecture or technical leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience architecting software within regulated, safety-critical, or mission-assured environments.
- Demonstrated experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), system decomposition, and interface control across disciplines.
- Experience with software lifecycle processes, configuration control, and change management in high-integrity development environments.
Responsibilities
- Define, evolve, and document system and software architecture across mission-critical embedded platforms, ensuring scalability, traceability, and integration with model-based design artifacts.
- Serve as the technical lead for cross-functional concerns by defining interfaces, allocating system functions to software, and aligning with program-level architectural constraints.
- Collaborate with systems engineering, software development, test, and integration teams to ensure architectural alignment and lifecycle continuity across all software components.
- Mentor and guide engineering teams in architectural best practices, modularity, code structure, and performance tradeoffs in real-time systems.
- Drive architecture-level decisions throughout the development lifecycle and serve as the primary author and reviewer of key technical artifacts (e.g., ICDs, software architecture documents, integration plans).
- Ensure traceability between architectural design decisions and requirements, test cases, and program objectives.
Preferred Qualifications
- Extensive experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS), including development, debugging, and performance optimization of embedded software applications.
- Experience supporting aerospace, defense, or nuclear command-and-control systems governed by standards such as DO-178C, MIL-STD-498, or equivalent.
- Experience leading teams through software design reviews, independent technical assessments, and customer audits.
- Familiarity with architecture modeling tools (e.g., Cameo, Rhapsody), and experience contributing to digital thread ecosystems.
- Exposure to Earned Value Management (EVM) principles and understanding of architecture’s impact on program cost and schedule.
