Requirements
- Must be proficient in performing venipunctures and skin punctures on all age groups, from neonates through adults.
- Exhibits knowledge of adequate and correct collection requirements.
- Must have a minimum of 1 year of experience in a laboratory setting.
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician – American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required.
- Valid Driver’s License required.
Responsibilities
- Perform venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens according to Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines.
- Obtain blood specimens and process specimens for analysis.
- Utilize appropriate computer systems to register patients and facilitate billing.
- Perform accessioning procedures appropriately and accurately to ensure positive identification of the specimens.
- Evaluate specimen suitability and acceptability.
- Resolve or refer problems as appropriate.
- Perform testing and record Point of Care instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality control as assigned.
- Handle and replenish reagents and supplies according to established protocols as assigned.
- Follow established reporting procedures as appropriate.
- Provide phlebotomy coverage as required to Medical Group offices, skilled nursing facilities, or perform in-home phlebotomy for homebound patients.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a nursing assistant (NA), certified nursing assistant (CNA), medical assistant (MA), certified medical assistant (CMA) or similar will be considered.
- Military experience will be considered, such as US Army 68W Combat Medic, 18D, US Navy Hospital Corpsman, and related medical specialties.
