Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Six months or more experience in a healthcare setting and/or laboratory (clinical, diagnostic or research)
  • Able to quickly learn analyzer maintenance and computer programs
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, planning and communication skills
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions and standard operating protocols
  • Must be able to self-prioritize workload and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting problems as they arise
  • Must be able to collaboratively work with all areas/personnel of the Laboratory and other departments throughout the Kaweah Health

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) staff in sample preparation and handling to optimize throughput using Lab automation and other analytic equipment
  • Efficiently processes samples throughout the testing process, from receipt to storage, and retrieves samples when needed for further testing
  • Under the guidance of a CLS, performs analyzer maintenance (daily, weekly, monthly, etc) and develops ongoing competence with analytic equipment to assist with troubleshooting, or problem identification and resolution
  • Performs inventory of all reagents and supplies and works with the Section Chief and Lab Administrative Assistant to ensure proper levels are maintained at all times
  • Monitors sample tracking and pending lists and proactively collaborates with Sample Processing personnel when delays arise- including the resolution of order/test issues
  • Performs audits when requested
  • Performs Quality Assurance functions as directed (e.g. temperature logs, etc)
  • Handles paperwork (e.g. scanning) when requested or assigned
  • Accessions samples and collects and prepares human samples for analysis
  • May represent the Laboratory in performing direct patient contact procedures
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPT certification
  • Some college level coursework in either computer or natural sciences
  • Prior experience with clinical laboratory analyzer maintenance and specimen processing
