Requirements

  • Minimum 1-2 years of working in a finance or accounting team, demonstrating an interest in learning payroll
  • A diploma or degree in business administration or related field, with some Accounting courses; Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation is an asset
  • Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
  • Impeccable accuracy with numbers and high attention to detail
  • Ability to exercise tact and discretion and to be entrusted with confidential information
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and time-manage
  • Excellent telephone etiquette and ability to write clear, concise and formal business communications
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
  • Familiarity with payroll systems (including Payworks and iSolved) is an asset
  • Familiarity with NetSuite and cloud-based accounting applications is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Assist the payroll team with processing full-cycle payroll for 1,500+ global employees
  • Gather and validate data from various departments (e.g. Human Resources, Admin, Accounts Payable) for payroll processing of 1,500 + global employees including but not limited to new hire information, departures, employee expense reimbursements, company bonuses, and other special payments for payroll processing
  • Work with the rest of the payroll team to reconcile monthly invoices and balance statements for other employee programs for employees for payroll purposes
  • Prepare Records of Employment (β€œROE”) for employee departures and terminations when directed by the Payroll Specialists
  • Assist in the preparation of annual year end payroll documentation as needed for the various countries in which Global Relay operates (e.g. Canadian T4s, US W2s, UK P11Ds and P60s, etc.), as directed by the Payroll Specialists
  • Assist in the preparation of payroll journal entries and reconciliations on a semi-monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
  • Ensure company policies are implemented and adhered to appropriately
  • Act as a resource and resolve payroll inquiries from employees and managers
  • Maintain confidentiality of all payroll information and documents at all times
  • Understand current payroll legislation and requirements and keep informed of any pending changes in the various jurisdictions in which Global Relay operates
  • Assist in ensuring that government reporting and remittance requirements are met
  • Assist in performing research of applicable tax treatment of benefits in the various jurisdictions in which Global Relay operates on an as-needed basis
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of the operating procedures for all payroll processes, alongside the Human Resources team
  • Continuously strive to implement best practices, looking for areas of streamlining and automation wherever possible
  • Assist in ad hoc departmental projects

Preferred Qualifications

  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation is an asset
  • Familiarity with payroll systems (including Payworks and iSolved) is an asset
  • Familiarity with NetSuite and cloud-based accounting applications is an asset
