Patient Transporter

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Requires full range of body motion including handling of patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination
• Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing to normal range
• Ability to move/transport up to or more than 100 pounds (lbs.)
• Requires working with some exposure to communicable disease

Responsibilities

• Transport patients to and from clinical, ancillary and support areas using wheelchairs, stretchers or beds, including patients with oxygen tanks, intravenous pumps, drips and special equipment
• Transfer patients to and from beds, wheelchairs or stretchers
• Transport patients during discharge to the hospital lobby
• Ensure proper oxygen levels in tanks before transporting patients
• Approach and aid patients and visitors
• Verify and confirm standard precautions and correct patient identification by comparing information from the pager and patient wristband to obtain the correct medical chart and verify proper mode of transportation
• Disinfect and maintain equipment
• Perform environmental and safety checks, identify malfunctioning equipment, document findings and report malfunctioning equipment
• Move and deliver equipment and linen carts
• Complete three months of on-the-job training to learn multiple hospital and clinic locations, special procedures, patient and safety emergency procedures and proper body mechanics to safely move patients
