Responsibilities

  • Preparation, gross description, and dissection of human tissue surgical specimens including: assuring appropriate specimen accessioning, describing gross anatomic features, photographing when needed, dissecting surgical specimens, preparing tissues for histologic processing.
  • Assisting with frozen section tissue cutting, slide staining, and/or specimen transport.
  • Identifying and sampling of normal and tumor tissue for the Tumor Bank for both patient care and research requirements.
  • Performing duties relating to the administrative maintenance of surgical pathology protocols, reports, and data.
  • Assuring proper maintenance of equipment, provision of adequate supplies, and cleanliness of the surgical pathology suite.
  • Performing such administrative, budgetary, supervisory, teaching, and other duties as may be assigned including working with pathology residents and Pathologists’ Assistant students.
  • Enhancement of professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings, and workshops.
  • Maintenance of established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate of accredited pathologist assistant program with certification by ASCP preferred or a minimum of 3 years applicable experience in an accredited laboratory environment.
  • Working knowledge of Pathologist Assistant theory.
  • Previous experience working with pathology residents.
  • Knowledge of remote pathology slide scanners for frozen sections such as Grundium and 3DHistech.
  • Experience with Epic, CoPath, and Voiceover Pro.
