Requirements
- Current CPR/First Aid card within 30 days of employment. Offered by City of Vancouver.
- Successful completion of a background check for applicants 18 and older.
- Successfully pass employment references.
- Maintain a professional appearance, adhere to dress code, and provide excellent customer service.
- Maintain a professional demeanor in stressful or challenging situations.
- Comply with policies and procedures of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services.
- Participate in rigorous physical activities that may require heavy lifting and/or long periods of standing/walking.
- Work in indoor and outdoor settings that may require exposure to weather elements.
- Successfully complete trainings/certification as required by position.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate and supervise participants in summer recreational programs.
- Embrace and support the diverse backgrounds and abilities of all participants.
- Enforce program structure and rules that ensure the physical and mental safety of all participants and staff.
- Actively participate in staff meetings and mandatory trainings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Manage a group of 10-15 youth both on and off site.
- Lead and actively participate in organizing and facilitating daily activities including crafts, games, sports, and other engaging experiences.
- Effectively communicate and collaborate with all participants, city staff, parents/guardians, and the public.
- Assist with program operations such as setting up, organizing, and cleaning of activity areas.
- Implement and support behavior management techniques and plans in collaboration with fellow staff, participants, and parents/guardians.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant work, volunteer, training, or personal experience in similar recreational programming.
- Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
- Ability to listen and carry-out instructions both written and verbal.
- Ability to quickly and effectively respond to emergencies and report all accidents and safety health hazards according to City guidelines.
- Establish and maintain effective work relationships with the public, program participants, other city employees.
- Monitor and interact with a large, diverse group of participants while multitasking duties and expectations.
