Requirements
- 2+ years progressively responsible work experience in a law office, corporate law department or the equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience
- Associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies or Paralegal Certificate required
- Understanding of the laws and regulations that govern insurance, including local, state, and federal rules
- Familiarity with various types of insurance (e.g., life, disability, and voluntary supplemental products)
- Knowledge of compliance requirements related to claims, underwriting, and policy renewals
- Basic understanding of corporate law, business structures, and insurance
- Knowledge of contract law as it relates to insurance policies
- Ability to review, draft, and maintain insurance contracts, policy updates, and amendments
- Knowledge of the regulations set by insurance regulatory bodies, like state insurance departments and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC)
- Basic knowledge of risk management principles and how insurance coverage helps businesses manage risks
- Ability to research insurance law, regulations, and case law
- Strong ability to review legal and insurance documents carefully to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Expertise in organizing legal documents, insurance claims, and records
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact with attorneys, clients, insurers, brokers, and regulators
- Familiarity with legal and insurance software (e.g., case management systems, claims software)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for drafting documents and creating reports
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Understanding the importance of maintaining confidentiality, especially with sensitive insurance claims and legal matters
- Ability to help attorneys resolve complex issues related to insurance claims, contracts, and regulations
