- High school Diploma
- Able to communicate effectively in English
- 2-3 years hospital experience
- CNA or equivalent
- CPR Certified
Responsibilities
- Provides quality patient care within the scope defined by hospital policy.
- Ensures care is in accordance with the established methods and procedures of the system.
- Assists with providing and maintaining a safe and comfortable OR area for surgical patients and demonstrates knowledge of and maintains aseptic technique.
- Practices within infection control policy and procedures.
- Performs scrub duties and demonstrates basic knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments and supplies.
- Assists in organizing and coordinating required instruments, equipment and supplies.
- Provides assistance to patients in walking, eating and other personal needs as necessary.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to operate standard and specialized OR/OB equipment.
- Assists in maintenance, care, cleaning and packaging of standard and specialty instruments and supplies.
- Assists the RN by checking the OR suite for completeness of instruments, supplies, and equipment such as baby resuscitation supplies, bovie and suction equipment.
- Notifies RN if anything missing from room or equipment is not in good working order.
- May assist in preparing unit, patient rooms and beds for receiving patient admission, returning patient, transfers or emergencies.
- Retrieves necessary patient care items as directed from pharmacy, central supply, warehouse, etc.
- Participates in unit performance improvement monitoring and data collection.
- Takes call when necessary to provide appropriate staffing for C/S.
- Observes and timely reports patient needs and conditions to the RN.
- Responds to patient’s call light in a timely manner.
- Practices appropriate utilization of restraints.
- Ensures that patient items/valuables are safeguarded.
- Monitors that all patients (mothers and infants) have ID bands on and they fit appropriately.
- Follows all infant safety precautions and guidelines.
- Stops surgical procedure if time out is not completed or if instrument/sponge counts are not correct.
- Immediately resolves customer issues/concerns that fall within scope of practice and competency.
- Provides input into the practice’s customer satisfaction initiatives.
- Participates in implementation of practice customer satisfaction strategies.
- Assists in maintaining and developing existing and new customer relationships, e.g., patients, significant others, and Associates.
- Maintains patient’s privacy and confidentiality.
- Assures that RN and OBT caregiver names are placed on patient boards in each room where applicable.
- Performs quick registration for patients in the OB triage area and for the infant’s quick registration in L&D after their birth.
- Submits improvement ideas for IMMC, its services, and participates in the implementation process as appropriate.
- Participates in unit innovation opportunities and strategies.
- Utilizes creative measures to optimize customer satisfaction.
- Provides input into strategies that enhance one’s skill level and increases the productivity of the unit.
- Participates in collecting and analyzing productivity data.
- Suggests productivity improvement ideas.
- Flexible in meeting the staffing requirements of the unit.
- Demonstrates willingness and aptitude to assimilate new roles and tasks.
- Assesses own learning needs, seeks appropriate training and development. Sets own objectives and goals.
- Maintains and supports Accrediting Organization requirements in regards to competencies. (I.e., CPR certification, safety and infection control, current licensure hospital/unit based certification standards).
- Demonstrates appropriate technical skills for clinical competency.
- Participates in the Performance Pathway evaluation process.
- Orient and train new Associates to unit functions and responsibilities.
- Participates in hospital committees.

- Participates with other Associates to create a cooperative team environment.
