Requirements

  • Three (3) years of nursing experience including some supervisory and/or teaching experience which shows knowledge of a) nursing techniques and therapeutic intervention used in care and treatment of patients (specific to the employing facility); b) supervisory techniques and work management of subordinate personnel; and c) administrative and educational principles and practices involved in nursing administration.
  • At the time of appointment, must possess a valid Oregon Registered Professional Nurse’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Institution Registered Nurses, Health Services Technicians, and Certified Medication Aids.
  • Recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, assigning, and managing employee performance.
  • Establish and manage systems to deliver medical, dental, hospice, psychiatric treatment, and medications services on a 24-hour, 7-day per week basis for adults in custody (AICs).
  • Ensure the standard of health care is consistent with that available in the community and assists the facility to meet standards for environment/occupational health and safety.
  • Serve as the on-site health authority and participate on the statewide Health Services Management team.
  • Manage human resources to deliver all levels and types of nursing care to a population of the adults in custody.
  • Ensure medical records are properly maintained on all adults in custody.
  • Establish and maintain a system for administration of medication according to physicians’ orders.
  • Respond to written and verbal complaints, grievances, or other requests for information including investigations.
  • Represent the Department of Corrections in court as necessary.
