Requirements

  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. required.
  • Interpersonal relationship skills necessary in order to relate to a wide variety of internal and external contacts including patients and families, multi-disciplinary treatment team members, other Hospital employees, and a variety of individuals in the social sphere of the patient under treatment.
  • Trained to work in the age group of the patient being served with annual continuing age specific education and demonstrated competence.
  • Current Michigan State educational limited license as physician and surgeon.
  • Enrolled in psychiatric residency program in order to gain adequate preparation in understanding of PRCMHS policies and procedures and in order to develop skills in patient assessment, and development of treatment plans.

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of licensed neuropsychologists, provides quality neuropsychological testing services to patients in outpatient and consultation settings by making complex psycho-diagnostic assessments and completing a diagnostic work with complex and difficult patients.
  • Works in consultation with interdisciplinary team members to facilitate differential diagnosis, treatment evaluation, and treatment planning.
  • Participates in the interviewing of patients and assessing them through mental status and/or psychometric testing, as well as reviewing records obtained from other patient care staff.
  • Selects appropriate therapies or treatments for the patients, based on specific symptoms and signs, laboratory tests, and knowledge of the natural history, pathogenesis, and prognosis of the conditions. Consults with other treatment team members in planning treatment programs for patients.
  • Collaborates with other treatment team members regarding patients’ progress through interdisciplinary team meetings, record review, and informal discussions.
  • Participates regularly in departmental and staff meetings.
  • Serves on programs or organizational committees as required and as time and workload allows.
  • Maintains educational requirements. Builds knowledge of current trends and developments in treatment and counseling through the use of appropriate professional literature, medical workshops and publications.
  • May engage in new or existing clinical research projects under the mentorship of research faculty.
  • May participate in portions of research projects, including planning, designing, conducting, analyzing and interpreting innovative research. Collects, organizes and records data for manuscript preparation.
  • Ensures that patients’ progress notes are properly prepared and entered into the medical records on a timely basis and in accordance with established organizational and departmental procedures.
