Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in museum studies, history, physical anthropology or a related degree.
- 1-2 years relevant collection management experience.
- Expert oral and written communications skills.
- Ability to acquire and maintain occupational health clearance for respirator use.
- Ability to work in confined collections storage areas and use basic materials handling equipment such as ladders, pallet jacks, and lifts.
- Excellent object handling skills.
Responsibilities
- Assists collections specialists and registration staff in day-to-day collections management projects and special projects.
- Capable of carrying out inventory, cataloging, and organization of museum objects, specimens, and archives in accordance with best-practice museum standards of care.
- Assists in preservation and maintenance activities of a range of archival and object types such as glass, paper, artifacts, skeletal, and wet tissue collections.
- Assist collections specialists in fulfilling research requests for inventories, data, and images.
- Assists researchers in accessing materials, setting up equipment, and facilitates use of collections materials.
- Receives OSHA required annual physical for non-lab-based collections staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with natural history or anatomical collections.
- Experience with museum collections databases, especially KE Emu software.
- Experience completing or supporting large scale inventory projects.
- Master’s degree in museum studies, history, physical anthropology, or a related degree.
