Requirements
- Successful completion of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association Board of Certification (BOC) examination
- Current active certification as an Athletic Trainer by the National Athletic Trainer’s Association
- Current active licensure by the Department of Health and Environmental Control to practice as an Athletic Trainer in the state of South Carolina or gain SC licensure within 6 months upon selection for position
- Participation in continuing education (50 CEU’s every 2 years)
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required
Responsibilities
- Provide general patient care in a clinical setting: triage patients and prepare for M.D. exams and procedures; assist with exams, procedures and treatments as necessary; instruct patients in collection of samples and tests; administer prescribed medications, treatments and tests as ordered by M.D.; observe record and report patient physical and psychosocial condition, reaction to medications and treatments to M.D.; respond to and triage incoming calls; instruct patient as ordered by M.D regarding treatment and/or medication. Call in orders appropriately as ordered by M.D.
- Coordinate patient care: Maintain timely flow of patients, schedule appointments and referrals based on urgency and availability; screen patients for appropriate information and provide patient education as appropriate for diagnosis and treatment; maintain and review patient records, charts, and other pertinent information, communicating information as appropriate; post-test exams results; review operative information with patient; educate patients in therapy treatment plans; assist with cast/brace and preoperative and equipment when needed; be available to assist on days when requested (i.e., graft prep, patient flow, etc.); assists surgery scheduling and interface with central scheduling.
- Maintain inventory and equipment: maintain exam room supplies, instruments and cleanliness as required by OSHA and UMA; ensure accurate calibrations, cleaning and scheduled maintenance of clinical/lab equipment as required by OSHA, CLIA and UMA; track by documentation.
- Perform Clerical and administrative duties as necessary: Complete office forms for patients (i.e. disability forms, FMLA forms). Attend in-services and meetings, participates in committees as requested. Assist MD’s in scheduling appointments, depositions etc.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Athletic Training or other appropriate field
- Possess previous Sports Medicine, Orthopaedic experience
- Have experience with clinical Orthopaedic operations
