Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or relevant medical or scientific discipline required
  • At least three years of clinical experience required
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by ASCP BOC or equivalent, or relevant categorical certification required

Responsibilities

  • Supports high quality laboratory testing in a clinical laboratory
  • Prepares specimens for testing
  • Performs routine laboratory tests
  • Performs specialized laboratory tests
  • Performs quality control
  • Troubleshoots quality control errors and maintenance procedures
  • Recognizes and evaluates computer data problems
  • Troubleshoots laboratory instruments
  • Performs preventative maintenance
  • Communicates technical information to medical and lay persons
  • Assists with training laboratory personnel in routine procedures
  • Participates in continuing education
  • Recognizes normal and abnormal values
  • Models Standards of Behavior in daily interactions and activities
  • Monitors and facilitates maximum staff productivity/efficiency in the delivery of quality laboratory testing
  • Serves as a facilitator with staff in problem resolution and adjustments to change
  • Investigates and resolves complex issues related to all phases of analytical processing and documents appropriately
  • Ensures maintenance procedures are monitored, performed and documented correctly
  • Monitors Coagulation quality control for shifts and trends
  • Troubleshoots QC problems unresolved by bench techs
  • Ensures QC documentation are correct
  • Reviews, updates, and writes laboratory procedures as needed
  • Performs coagulation parallel testing, correlations and reference range evaluations
  • Prepares and completes lot conversions as needed and re-evaluates the therapeutic heparin range
  • Documents/files all service reports
  • Consults with pathologist concerning any unresolved problems
