Requirements
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field
- Demonstrated experience in CAD (e.g., SolidWorks)
- Comfort with machine shop fabrication tools and aptitude for hands-on building and troubleshooting
- Knowledge of engineering first principles
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and validate prototypes of new electrochemical cell architectures and experimental setups that meet desired functional requirements
- Conduct an iterative design process, confirming that mechanical and electrochemical requirements are achieved, and refining or modifying designs based on experimental results (in close collaboration with battery scientists)
- Perform analysis (e.g., hand calculations, FEA, CFD, materials testing, etc.) as needed to develop your designs
- Prototype your designs in-house and/or by outsourcing to external manufacturers
- Document your design process and results via written documentation, CAD files, engineering drawings, and testing data
- Propose creative solutions to problems; work collaboratively and communicate proactively across teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience or courses in chemistry/electrochemistry are a plus (but not required)
