Requirements

  • Associate degree in technical field or equivalent power plant operations experience.
  • Through knowledge and experience (eight years or more) in power plant operations including super critical, drum or combined cycle.
  • Good understanding of power plant processes, equipment and systems is required.
  • Two years of experience with data historian.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, organizing and coordinating multiple work activities at the same time.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and solve problems.
  • Knowledgeable of power plant policies, practices and procedures.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint and other software applications.
  • Effective writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and developed positive working relationships with Plant Management Teams and Operators.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced condition monitoring and analysis of data important to the safe, reliable and efficient operation of critical power plant systems, components and processes.
  • Access, trend, monitor and analyze data from the data historian and the Advanced Pattern Recognition (APR) software.
  • Report findings to plant management teams and develop positive working relationships to discuss findings and resolutions.
  • Assist power plant operators in identifying problems and offer possible solutions to operating problems.
  • Analyze current and historic generating unit operating conditions and diagnose anomalous data to determine cause/failure.
  • Develop, deploy, monitor and refine effective on-line performance and condition assessment models used to monitor plant equipment and systems.
  • Maintain documentation for the M&D center activities, plant meetings and findings.
  • Establish positive working relationships and effectively communicate with plant management and employees, engineers, subject matter experts and vendors concerning model alarms and operation and maintenance repairs, replacement, modification and improvements.
  • Analyze like-unit comparisons, identify and communicate best practices, apply lessons learned across the fleet and ensure consistency to improve processes and reduce repeat failures.
  • Work with the APR software to develop a working knowledge of current unit configurations as well as future changes to unit configurations.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of applicable operating instructions, operating procedures and circular letters.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of plant heat balance systems and the effect of unbalances on operating efficiency.
  • Attend interest group meetings such as EPRI Fleet-wide On-line monitoring Interest Group and the Instep Users Group to stay abreast of changes in technology.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Vibration Analysis experience highly preferred.
  • Prism Software knowledge and experience helpful.
  • Power plant operations experience preferred.
  • Wind operations experience preferred.
