Requirements

  • Associate degree or equivalent (military/law enforcement/security) experience.
  • Credentialed as an Operator of Non-Inspected Passenger Vessel (or higher) or prior military, police, or federal law enforcement agency experience as a boat crew member.
  • Functional experience in Maritime Security / Law Enforcement, boat operations and small boat trailering (launch & recovery).
  • Functional experience operating a marine radar, VHF marine radio and AIS.
  • Functional experience with conducting basic engineering troubleshooting maintenance and repair of a small boat.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Possess or can obtain a DBIDS.
  • Ability to pass a DOT-Commercial Motor Vehicle background check.
  • Ability to pass a DOT medical examiner certification.
  • Ability to pass a background check to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Able to effectively liaison with Federal, State, and Local first responders.
  • Ability to flourish in an environment with multiple and shifting priorities.
  • Demonstrated strong time management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail, resolution, and follow through skills.
  • Strong competency in all Microsoft office applications.
  • Ability to flex schedule and occasionally work evenings, nights or weekends as needed to support test and launch operations.
  • Carry 20 pounds of gear and stand for extended periods of time in a moving environment.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Responsibilities

  • Perform as a boat operator; safely operate and navigate a vessel in the vicinity off Cape Canaveral and in the port during various environmental conditions.
  • Conduct basic maintenance and repair of Blue Origin Security Vessels, trailers, and respective equipment and ensure their readiness for use.
  • Effectively and respectfully communicate to the maritime community in person and via VHF marine radio to inform them of launch hazard areas.
  • Track vessels utilizing radar, AIS, or other navigation equipment to determine their proximity to hazard areas.
  • Operate a truck with a trailer to launch and recover Blue Origin Security Vessels.
  • Conduct tender craft duties and support needs of the landing platform vessel.
  • Liaise with maritime partner agencies and assist in pre-mission maritime domain awareness assessments.
  • As needed, conduct sea surveillance of hazard areas utilizing land-based radar system and communicate to vessels via VHF marine radio.
  • Create, draft, edit, and prepare reports, project meeting notes, presentations, spreadsheets, and documents.
  • Engage with the local boating community and attend port maritime meetings to explain our exclusionary zones to improve and minimize future at-sea interactions.
  • Contribute to New Glenn program success by providing general operations support and accomplishing related duties on an as needed basis.
  • Support strategic transports of flight hardware between facilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Government, Military, Law Enforcement and/or Corporate Maritime Security / Law Enforcement experience.
  • Range clearance experience in support of space launch operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in security, business, administration, or related field.
  • Outboard marine engine technician certification.
  • Experience enforcing maritime safety and/or security zones.
  • Graduated of the NASBLA Tactical Coxswain Course, SMTC or FLETC Pursuit or Tactical Coxswain Course.
