Requirements

  • Graduate of an AMA accredited program for Respiratory Care, (Bachelor’s Degree required BA, BS, RRT, etc.)
  • 5-10 years previous management experience.
  • 5 years of previous in a hospital setting.
  • Previous experience in a critical care and subacute setting.
  • Strong interpersonal, clinical problem solving skills.
  • Organization, planning and delegation skills.
  • Team building skills and communication skills.
  • Demonstrates leadership attitudes.
  • Results-oriented with concern for appropriate process.
  • Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner by the IDPR.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist by the NBRC.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, management, implementation, and evaluation of operations/services to ensure quality care, efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Participates in short and long term planning. Analyzes and plans for the needs of the department.
  • Establishes staffing requirements. Plans for the appropriate utilization of resources.
  • Assesses service volumes and acuity/complexity of patients to determine staffing levels.
  • Monitors quality of patient care and patient satisfaction; oversees implementation of measures to improve both.
  • Facilitates care delivery in conjunction with the patient focused care model, and cost effectiveness.
  • Supports and facilitates care management practices in conjunction with Good Samaritan Hospital Protocols.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures to assure effective and efficient operations consistent with the Mission, Values, and Philosophy of Advocate Health Care and Good Samaritan Hospital.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory agency standards, i.e., federal, state, city, Accrediting Organization, IDPH, CLIA, etc.
  • Develop and incorporates PI activities and performance improvement projects.
  • Ensures that standards of practice are developed, implemented, and evaluated in conjunction with monitoring and evaluation of activities, goals or objectives.
  • Preparation and administration of budgets to ensure adequate personnel, facilities, and supplies.
  • Plans and administers an annual budget, and monitors budgetary expenditures, reports and justifies variances on an ongoing basis.
  • Assures efficient utilization of staff, supplies, and equipment.
  • Identifies inventory levels and costs of supplies maintained in the area.
  • Develops new and expanding program proposals with cost/budget implications.
  • Completes forecasting for upcoming and long-term budgets.
  • Develops major equipment purchase proposals.
  • Participates in the development of feasibility studies.
  • Participates in the development of a Strategic Marketing Plan for Respiratory Services.
  • Participates in system wide business initiatives through the Respiratory Care Council and other system activities.
  • Responsible for the selection, development, motivation and evaluation of staff.
  • Recruits, selects, mentors and motivates staff to achieve department and personal goals and objectives.
  • Assures performance reviews for staff are completed in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate recruitment activities. Facilitate and promote retention strategies.
  • Assesses educational needs of the staff and facilitates educational opportunities.
  • Assist individuals with identifying professional goals and provides opportunities to achieve those goals.
  • Ensures an adequate orientation program for staff.
  • Implement and coordinate disciplinary procedures.
  • Monitor and facilitate the resolution of performance and/or other employee relations issues.
  • Facilitates staff meetings relating to department, hospital and system activities.
  • Maintenance of effective working relationships with internal and external contacts.
  • Collaborates with physicians, management and other health care professionals to assure delivery of quality care, patient satisfaction and continual use of area services.
  • Actively participates in assigned committees and projects, (CQI, hospital projects, etc.)
  • Networks with peers to assure that administrative and clinical standards integrate with department and hospital services.
  • Networks with professionals at other health care facilities for clinical standards.
  • Coordinates activities with various other hospital departments to ensure quality care, patient satisfaction, and cost effectiveness.
  • Collaborates with system peers to facilitate external program growth and development.
  • Responsible for personal and professional growth and development.
  • Keeps abreast of current standards of care via literature, educational events, internal and external resources and internal/external networking.
  • Maintains memberships in professional and community organizations.
  • Participates in activities to enhance professional growth by involvement in professional organizations and continuing education.
  • Conducts special projects and studies related to area activities, goals or objectives.
  • Assumes 24-hour responsibility for assigned areas of operations.
