Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in sports management, communications, marketing, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4-8 years of experience in fan engagement, community relations or a related role within sports.
- Deep understanding of soccer culture and supporter group dynamics.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and U.S. Soccer-run matchdays.
- Passion for soccer and a commitment to enhancing the fan experience.
- Able and willing to attend all matches and events.
- General knowledge of soccer.
- Capable of working in fast-paced and demanding environments.
- Must be able to connect “micro” details to the “macro” vision and mission.
- Proficient experience with Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook).
Responsibilities
- Serve as liaison and primary point of contact for all supporter groups between U.S. Soccer staff and partners, ensuring open and effective communication.
- Develop a strategic plan for growing the number of supporter groups and establish a formal governance framework and onboarding processes to support existing and new supporter groups.
- Organize and facilitate regular meetings with supporter groups to gather feedback, discuss initiatives, and address concerns.
- Collaborate with supporter groups to plan and execute supporter group events, matchday activities and other U.S. Soccer fan-related events.
- Work with supporter groups to continually innovate to implement fan growth strategies to further fan engagement overall.
- Lead strategic evolution of the Fan Council role and approach including development of a Fan Charter, review of the Fan Code of Conduct in partnership with the Fan Council and growth of U.S. Soccer Insiders.
- Act as the primary liaison between U.S. Soccer and the Fan Council, coordinating meetings and ensuring the Council’s voice is heard within U.S. Soccer.
- Develop agendas, document minutes, and follow up on action items from Fan Council meetings.
- Work with the Fan Council to develop and implement initiatives that enhance the fan experience, promote the value and benefit of the Insiders program, and increase the number of paid members.
- Coordinate and execute Fan Council presence at matches and quarterly in person meetings.
- Responsible for coordinating updates and leading compliance with Fan Council Bylaws, execution and planning of Fan Council elections and Fan Council role at AGM.
- Partner with Fan Engagement and Insiders teams to help develop and implement strategies to improve the overall fan experience on matchdays and outside of matchdays through the lens of supporter group culture and Fan Council feedback.
- Partner with Insights team and Loyalty leads to regularly gather and analyze fan feedback to identify areas for improvement.
- Disseminate fan feedback to U.S. Soccer stakeholders and work with them to implement solutions where necessary to improve the fan experience.
- Foster a sense of community among U.S. Soccer’s supporters through regular communication and engagement initiatives.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key community stakeholders to promote U.S. Soccer’s value and initiatives.
- Represent U.S. Soccer at supporter events and other relevant activities.
- Address and resolve any issues or conflicts that arise within supporter groups and/or between fans and U.S. Soccer, escalating when/where necessary to the right stakeholders, including U.S. Soccer security and venue security teams.
- Implement effective communication strategies during crises to maintain trust and transparency with fans.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with supporter groups and/or Fan Councils.
- Passion for soccer and a deep knowledge of the soccer landscape in the United States.
- Spanish or bilingual language skills a plus.
