Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Law, Engineering, Computer Science or Data Science. Other relevant programs may be considered.
  • Experience with or knowledge of the following: accounting and finance, regulatory, policy development, and computer or data science (process automation)
  • Strong compliance mindset; desiring to act with integrity consistently while supporting the growth objectives of the ATCO businesses
  • Enhanced analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in data analysis, including experience with tools like Excel and Power BI
  • Experience with additional Microsoft 365 applications (SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, etc.)
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage priorities, work collaboratively in a team, and build effective relationships with internal stakeholders
  • Confidence to support and collaborate with senior executives across the ATCO companies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach and mentor the Compliance analysts in implementing inter-affiliate arrangements
  • Provide guidance to utilities divisions on Inter-Affiliate Code of Conduct (IACC) requirements pertaining to inter-affiliate interactions and financial transactions
  • Lead and manage the establishment/improvement of internal business processes supporting the compliance obligations of the utilities divisions by collaborating with leaders of utilities business functions
  • Provide Code of Conduct Regulation (COCR) guidance between distribution divisions (ATCO Gas and Electric) and affiliated retailer, ATCO Energy
  • Assist the Compliance Officer and Compliance Plan Committees with their respective compliance requirements
  • Manage and allocate team resources towards upcoming tasks/projects as well as unexpected, complex initiatives in alignment with the skills and strengths of team members
  • Prepare and maintain inter-affiliate services agreements and other documentation to ensure compliance and fulfill reporting needs
  • Develop compliance reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Lead and manage compliance-related regulatory filings, investigations and audits
  • Analyze new business initiatives, strategies, or organizational changes to develop appropriate compliance solutions
  • Monitor emerging trends and risks to inform program design and mitigation strategies
  • Implement the annual company-wide training processes as well as targeted training sessions for ATCO business units where a compliance risk is recognized and requires mitigation
  • Collaborate with utilities accounting teams to establish and review pricing methodologies for inter-affiliate services
  • Support the compilation of inter-affiliate financial transaction reports for the utilities accounting teams
  • Provide independent recommendations for business inquiries related to inter-affiliate financial matters
  • Develop a thorough understanding of business costs relevant to inter-affiliate service provision
  • Analyze and provide insights into the fair market value of retail natural gas and electricity services in Alberta.
