Requirements
- Education: Canadian Law or Paralegal education preferred, with contract and insurance law education and experience.
- Undergraduate degree preferred.
- CIP or FCIP an asset.
- Proven experience in the insurance industry, particularly in broker/insurer contract creation and governance required.
- Strong understanding of the insurance industry, partnerships between brokers and insurers, and relevant papering and legal language needs.
- Experience working for an insurer or brokerage, particularly handling contracts between insurers and brokerage, minimum 2 years.
- Excellent knowledge of Canadian regulatory requirements.
- Ability to conduct thorough investigations and governance reviews.
- Strong collaboration skills with Broker Distribution and Legal departments.
Responsibilities
- Develop and manage brokerage agreements, mergers, acquisitions, and terminations of brokerage agreements, along with amendments and addenda dependent on contractual needs supporting brokers and Aviva.
- Understand and ensure compliance with Canadian regulatory requirements.
- Conduct thorough investigations and governance related to broker/insurer contracts and appropriate papering needs in pre-existing relationships.
- Organize documentation for record keeping, to satisfy multiple internal and external audits throughout the years with minimal time consumption. Be the owner of all contract documentation, for simpler storage, in a confidential methodology.
- Create collaborative healthy working relationships with the Broker Distribution and Legal department to formalize contract work. Ability to question the status quo where needed. Courage and forward thinking to look for working efficiencies and improvements. Be a partner who helps evaluate opportunities and challenges Broker Distribution and Business Units to maintain consistency in methodology, approval processing, and governance.
- Provide expert advice on the roles and responsibilities of brokers and insurers within the contract framework.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the Canadian regulatory environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bonus: Familiarity with Aviva systems and processes.
- Bilingual French and English is an asset.
