Requirements
- Associate degree from an accredited Radiologic Technology program
- Current registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- Current registration from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in mammography
- Licensed by the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association (SCRQSA)
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification
Responsibilities
- Operate a mammography unit to produce images of the breasts for diagnostic purposes under direction of a physician
- Explain the procedure to patients
- Position and immobilize the patient’s breast in unit
- Observe the scanning process
- Monitor the video display of the area being scanned and adjust the density or contrast to improve picture quality
- Review and evaluate the film or image recording plate to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes
- Keep track of patient records
- Adjust imaging apparatus as necessary
- Describe the procedure to patients and respond to any inquiries
- Adhere to a doctor’s directions for images
- Use x-ray protection equipment
- Patient positioning
- Use machinery to provide diagnostic pictures
- Picture retouching as necessary
Preferred Qualifications
- 0-2 years of independent mammography experience
