Maintenance Mechanic

One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of one year experience in a maintenance position.
Must have their own set of hand tools (on good quality, list available upon request).
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and peers.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Responsible for working in a safe and orderly manner while in the plant on the plant property.
Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment.
Listens for unusual sounds and views machines and equipment to detect malfunctions and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine.
Dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts.
Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
Repairs and maintains physical structure of establishment.
Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems and related steam and refrigeration, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
Operates cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathe, mill, grinder, and drills, to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs, fixtures and tools.
