Requirements
- Minimum of five years in overhead line construction.
- Ability to read and understand routine written and verbal instructions.
- Successful completion of a certified Apprenticeship Program.
- Ability to perform construction and maintenance work on poles, towers, and other overhead structures, as well as underground equipment, cables, and facilities.
- Capability to operate power equipment associated with work performed in Lines overhead and underground lines construction and maintenance.
- Experience in overhead line transmission and distribution, and underground distribution work.
- Must meet standards and complete requirements for a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) as defined by the Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1986.
- Must pass the EEI CAST test.
- Willingness to work from any of the Company’s operating centers, in inclement weather or emergencies, and meet service commitments.
- Ability to report within forty-five (45) minutes of the reporting location.
- Consideration of physical fitness, attendance, safety, and performance records.
Responsibilities
- Performs line construction, line maintenance and operating work, as required, on energized or de-energized lines and cable at all system voltages using protective equipment prescribed by the safety rules.
- Setting or removing poles or steel towers; installing and removing any associated equipment such as transformers, voltage regulators, street light regulators, capacitors, cutouts, lightning arresters, disconnects, oil switches, reclosers, etc.;
- May be required at any time to drive or operate line truck, digger or any aerial truck;
- Stringing conductors, splicing and correcting sagging wires;
- Making safe and adequate rigging of blocks, gin poles, etc. necessary to raise or lower any associated line equipment or material; assisting line foreman in directing the operator of a truck, winch, crane, etc. used to raise or lower the equipment or material;
- Assisting supervisor in training, teaching or instructing employees of a lower classification in safe and efficient work method; temporarily acting as foreman when delegated;
- Operating line or substation switches; repairing broken conductors or refuse transformers; replacing broken poles, defective transformers, regulators, cutouts, disconnects and all associated equipment; and
- Placing and clearing temporary grounds on de-energized conductors.
- Installation of underground equipment, cable splices, and terminations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience climbing wood poles or steel tower;
- Previous experience in underground construction;
- Any other qualifications contributing to the applicant’s ability to perform the job.
