Lead Vehicle and Equipment Mechanic

Requirements

• Two years of automotive technical school with 5+ years of hands-on experience or a High School diploma with 10+ years of experience.
• Possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or B without air brake restrictions, as required for the assignment.
• Expertise in methods, procedures, tools, and equipment used in brake service and inspection tasks.
• Ability to perform brake service or inspections through experience, training, or certifications.

Responsibilities

• Schedule and lead daily repairs and preventive maintenance activities for Laboratory vehicles and equipment.
• Develop and implement maintenance schedules, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
• Inspect completed repair work to ensure quality and adherence to standards.
• Maintain an adequate stock of frequently used mechanical and electrical vehicle parts.
• Manage service, repair, and ordering documentation, submitting necessary reports as required.
• Perform routine and preventive maintenance on various vehicle and trailer systems, including engine, ignition, fuel, electrical, hydraulic, heating/cooling, transmission, brake, and lubrication.
• Diagnose and repair reported system issues, dismantling and rebuilding components as necessary.
• Provide in-field repair services as needed.
• Assist and mentor less experienced mechanics in diagnosing and resolving complex problems.
• Recommend repair work to be outsourced and review completed external repairs before returning vehicles to service.
• Lead assigned projects and work groups as required.
• Perform occasional snow removal tasks using approved equipment after obtaining necessary medical clearance and training.
• Adhere to and uphold all environmental, health, and safety regulations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
