Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree minimum
- Minimum 8+ years of experience in system engineering, hardware design, system integration, or scientific R&D
- Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. Person, defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status

Responsibilities
- Lead system engineering of a trapped-ion quantum computer based on a quantum charge coupled device architecture
- Develop, define, and manage system requirements, specifications, and engineering documentation, with a focus on developing ‘right size’ solutions to system development needs, appropriate for the maturity of the technology.
- Working with other Sol team leads, you will derive, organize, and communicate the system requirements and high-level requirements for each subsystem.
- You will act as a consultant to subsystem teams as they derive detailed subsystem requirements from higher level requirements, ensure that requirements are understood, mutually compatible, complete
- Develop, publish, and maintain system engineering artifacts for high level system verification and validation, including risk assessment and mitigation strategies.
- You will be responsible for organizing and conducting system design reviews, ensuring artifacts are updated and accessible
- Guide technical decisions throughout the product lifecycle, including design, implementation, test and integration, ensuring on-time delivery.
- Communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring clear understanding and buy-in.
- Mentor junior engineers
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree/Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering or related technical field
- Proven experience in system engineering or system architecture of highly complex, large-scale technologies (e.g., quantum computers, atomics clocks, spacecraft, or multidisciplinary hardware systems)
- Ability to deconstruct highly complex systems into clear and comprehensible constituent pieces and work packages
- Strong background in requirements engineering, system verification, and validation processes
- Familiarity with Model Based System Engineering (MBSE)
- Prior experience with laser-cooled, neutral atom or atomic ion scientific apparatus or quantum computers
- Knowledge of cryogenic systems, and/or optical systems
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and integrating mechanical, electrical, and software systems
- Proficiency in system modeling, simulations, and analysis tools
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Experience with Python, MATLAB, C++ or related languages
- Ability to build strong relationships and effectively partner with others
- Strong communication verbal and written communication skills
