Requirements

  • PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline with a minimum of 3 years of industrial experience, or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline with a minimum of 6 years of industrial experience
  • In-depth knowledge of gear component and system-level design and analysis methods, including the integration of bearings, lube delivery/scavenge system, seals, and housings
  • Experience participating on multidisciplinary teams to mature technology from concept through validation
  • Experience with product design constraints, manufacturing techniques, and material processing selections for gear systems
  • Proficiency using 3D solid modeling software (e.g., NX, SOLIDWORKS, Creo)
  • Analytical experience, including structural/thermal finite element analysis with ANSYS
  • Results-oriented execution mindset with a sense of urgency
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet aggressive deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to interface with senior leaders and customers with clarity and confidence
  • Ability to work across all functions/levels as part of a team
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a global team environment
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.

Responsibilities

  • Innovate gear system concept designs and mature the technology in line with robust technology roadmaps
  • Lead and/or participate on multidisciplinary teams to invent, shape, and mature the next generation of mechanical system technology
  • Shape the design, analysis, and testing of innovative components and systems that meet the needs of current and future GE Aerospace products
  • Define instrumentation and data acquisition systems capable of meeting test objectives
  • Develop and mature design or analysis tools for advanced mechanical systems
  • Prepare and participate in project and technical reviews
  • Provide expert consultation to help resolve technical challenges across the organization
  • Foster a culture rooted in GE Aerospace behaviors: respect for people, continuous improvement, and customer driven
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of technology roadmaps
  • Lead the development and writing of internal and external proposals
  • Patent inventions and develop a record of publication via conferences and peer reviewed journals

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience innovating novel gear system architectures
  • Experience with testing of rotating components, data acquisition, data reduction, and design validation
  • Experience with rotor support design, rotor dynamics, and rigid body dynamics
  • Direct knowledge of aerospace power and propulsion applications
  • Experience developing technical ideas with internal/external customers and a track record of converting ideas to programs
