Requirements
- Strong knowledge of Lean Materials Strategies.
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
- Experience in packaging testing standards.
- Ability to travel as needed on a local scale.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, effective project planning in terms of resources, strategies, cost, and time, with ability to meet project timelines.
- Relatively high level of analytical ability where problems are complex.
- Knowledge of basic manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Knowledge of supply chain processes.
- Knowledge of Workplace Safety Systems pertaining to Safe Handling, Stacking, Storage of containers.
- Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area required.
- Proficient in Dangerous Goods/ Haz-Mat material requirements.
- Provide feedback to Material Launch Team on future program container designs.
Responsibilities
- Communicate all container design changes to Office/Floor/Production that will impact space/material handling/transportation decisions.
- Communicate all non-compliances found during MVB builds.
- Issue Supplier Practical Problem Solving (SPPS’s) as required for packaging non-conformances found in MVB’s.
- Design and development of new sequence and batch racks for future programs.
- Maintain tracking sheet for all sequence racks.
- Validate container design for all containers interfacing with line side material devices.
- Communicate container return flow plan to floor team and offsites.
- Develop plan for MVB and future program rack returns.
- Verify correct packaging information is loaded in MGO (Container, standard pack, dimensions, weight).
- Ensure all 1738 forms are completed and approved for all contracted parts.
- Ensure back up containers have gone through formal buy off for all commodities.
- Validate standard pack quantities for any parts not yet reviewed at MVB.
- Verify IO container plans.
- Confirm all container loop sizes validated by containerization for all transportation modes planned.
- Load all containers/routes into the container logistics information planning system (CLIPS).
- Maintain the log for all containers at risk (Sequenced & Specialized) for SORP readiness.
- Responsible for supplier shipping label compliance.
- Attend container buyoff meetings as the main plant representative responsible for accepting or declining proposed container designs.
- Manage buy-off processes with all affected parties within the plant for new and modified containers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with a major in engineering, packaging engineering or related field and/ or equivalent experience.
- 2 + years of packaging engineering experience.
- Packaging Engineer with Industrial Engineering experience or interest preferred.
- Knowledge of computer software as it pertains to engineering preferred.
- Previous Packaging Engineer assignment preferred.
- Dangerous Goods experience.
- GM plant material experience knowledge of work standards, ergonomic principle, material optimization, and facility layout strongly preferred.
