Requirements
- High school diploma or GED and one or more years of work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Responsibilities
- Cultivate wildflower species and infect them with fungi to study host/pathogen interactions.
- Extract and purify RNA from fungi, plants, and infected plants.
- Produce complementary cDNA and perform real-time qPCR.
- Utilize a Nanodrop spectrophotometer for nucleic acid quantification.
- Prepare and sterilize growth media, buffers, and solutions using autoclaving techniques.
- Handle and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper sterilization and functionality.
- Conduct standard molecular biology techniques, including plasmid DNA isolation, agarose gel electrophoresis, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), DNA fragment purification, and Gibson Assembly for cloning.
- Perform BLAST analysis of DNA and protein sequences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of coursework in Genetics; courses in Cell Biology and Microbiology are preferred.
- Proficiency in sterile technique and proper handling of microbial cultures.
- Extensive experience in growing wildflower species and infecting them with fungi.
- Hands-on experience with RNA extraction and purification, cDNA synthesis, and qPCR.
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment such as the Nanodrop spectrophotometer.
- Ability to prepare and sterilize growth media, buffers, and solutions.
- Experience with standard molecular biology methods, including plasmid DNA isolation, agarose gel electrophoresis, PCR, DNA fragment purification, and Gibson Assembly.
