Requirements

  • 4 years of relevant job experience or Bachelor’s Degree from a college or technical school in CHEMISTRY related areas. Job experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • No experience required for above college degrees.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills to be able to work well in both self-managed and team environment.
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting established deadlines.
  • Comfortable working with hazardous materials.
  • Strong interest in hands-on work to ensure a good understanding of the products.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Possess strong computer and analytical skills.
  • Effective problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design of polymer synthesis experiments, conduct those experiments independently and collect, summarize and present the resulting data.
  • Troubleshoot problems as they arise in the laboratory, collaborate with research investigators when erroneous or unexpected results occur.
  • Identify and suggest improvements in methods.
  • Document findings and communicate results.
  • Make suggestions on path forward and contribute to work plans and manage daily workflow.
  • Inspect and perform routine maintenance on equipment used to conduct experiments at the designated work location.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory of chemicals and/or supplies necessary for the completion of experiments at work location.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and participate in department and site safety practices.
  • Interpret and communicate of test results using computer-based systems. Document experimental test results using computer programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Safely handle, categorize, and dispose of chemicals on a routine basis. Handle multiple tasks under strict time constraints.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS/BA (4-year degree) from a college or technical school with at least three years of experience in the synthesis of polymers or organic compounds in an industrial laboratory environment.
