Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, science, or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years in NPDES permitting and wastewater treatment operations
  • Potable water sampling and analysis
  • Knowledge of laboratory instrumentation i.e. ICP, Hach analyzers, LECO, XRF, etc
  • Must be self-motivating with excellent facilitator and problem-solving skills
  • Must have good knowledge of operations and procedures and be capable of communicating and consulting optimally with others
  • Must have good relationship and teambuilding skills
  • Understanding of the following information system software applications: Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Managing a team of laboratory staff and developing operating procedures to ensure that experiments and analyses are conducted according to established scientific standards.
  • Prioritizing and allocating laboratory operations and workflow so that the laboratory’s equipment and resources are used efficiently, and work schedules and targets are met.
  • Evaluating and recommending investments in technology, equipment, systems, or other assets that will enhance the laboratory’s performance.
  • Managing the maintenance, repair, and installation of laboratory equipment through manufacturer service contracts and help ensure environmental field monitoring equipment is accurately maintained, i.e. autosamplers, pH probes, flow meters.
  • Construct monthly, weekly, and daily schedules of available staff including the assignment of overtime duties.
  • Review/develop and implement lab training program to ensure adequate training across all personnel.
  • Responsible for maintaining supplies for the casthouse spectrometer lab and the calibration and maintenance of casthouse spectrometer.
  • Participate in environmental incident investigations including determining root cause analyses with follow-up on identified corrective actions.
  • Assist with routine water compliance inspections and identified facility routes.
  • Wastewater and potable water data compilation and potable water reporting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • >5 years in NPDES permitting and wastewater treatment operations
  • Active Indiana Class D Wastewater Operator License
  • Active Indiana Drinking Water Class DSS WT3 Operator License
