Requirements

  • Associate’s degree and up to 2 years related laboratory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Demonstrates outstanding attention to detail, the ability to multi-task, and an understanding of experimental procedures.
  • Ability to work independently while fostering a team environment.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Able to use sound judgment in decision making, troubleshooting problems, and providing solid recommendations for solutions.
  • In-depth knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policy compliance, laboratory practice quality assurance, laboratory supply and inventory management, research documentation, and spreadsheet software.
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in executing experiments in human nutrition, setting up laboratory methods, ensuring protocols are followed, and analyzing stable iron isotopes and biological samples.
  • Analyze data, maintain meticulous records of experimental procedures, and support manuscript and grant proposal preparation.
  • Assist the Principal Investigator with purchasing decisions, determining the ancillary equipment needed; obtain quotes and provide recommendations. Monitor the lab’s budget, investigating any discrepancies.
  • Participate in literature reviews and assist with methodology write-ups for manuscripts and grant proposal preparations.
  • Oversee and coordinate undergraduate research assistants’ workloads and schedules, provide training and support for graduate students, visitors, and other lab personnel.
  • Ensure lab equipment is functional, necessary supplies are on hand, and laboratory safety procedures are strictly followed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and experience with molecular biology, chemistry, geology or biochemistry.
  • Knowledge of mass spectrometry and stable isotopes is desirable.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
