Requirements
- Four years of recent (within last ten years) full-time investigative experience.
- Conducting all elements of fact finding investigations (criminal, civil, personnel, etc.) including: witness interviews, gathering and preserving evidence (according to the rules of evidence), and examination of associated records, data, and documents.
- Drafting and presenting investigation reports used in legal, civil and administrative hearings and proceedings.
- College-level courses in criminal justice, law, medical malpractice and risk management and nursing may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to one year of the required experience.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate cases for adherence to nursing practice standards and the Nurse Practice Act.
- Effectively prioritize and manage assigned case load.
- Enter relevant case information and documents into the database to track and monitor open cases.
- Obtain and review documents and records from a wide variety of healthcare settings.
- Conduct virtual interviews (licensees, witnesses, attorneys).
- Evaluate all information and evidence obtained throughout the investigation to determine if a legitimate violation has taken place.
- Author comprehensive investigatory reports and provide disciplinary recommendations (if applicable).
- Present completed investigations to the Board (virtual and in person).
- Participate in legal hearings in contested cases as required.
- Draft legal documents related to Board actions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience and skill in conducting fair, unbiased and ethical interviews and investigations related to healthcare practices through a trauma informed lens.
- Strong case management experience.
- Strong analytical skills and comfort performing independent research, reviewing laws, rules and regulations, and analyzing conflicting allegations, testimony, and documentary records.
- Comfortable performing tasks that involve high levels of ambiguity and confidentiality.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Teams, Excel).
- Demonstrated strong communication skills (verbal, written, crucial conversations).
- Experience with technical/report writing.
- Public speaking experience preferred (board presentations and public testimony).
