Requirements

  • Working towards a Bachelor’s degree or diploma in occupational health and safety, environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental technology, natural science or related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of Federal, and Provincial environmental, health and safety regulations
  • Strong writing skills. Experience with writing comprehensive technical reports is an asset. Candidates must submit a writing sample with their application, which may include a paper or essay completed for an academic assignment.
  • Class G Ontario driver’s license/applicable driver’s license with good standing required
  • Willingness to travel and spend time out of the office and in the field (up to 50% of the time)
  • Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Detail-oriented with mechanical aptitude and interest in developing hands-on trouble-shooting/problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Develop project specific Health and Safety Plans
  • Support development of health and safety programs related to a wide range of manufacturing industries including mining, technology, chemical, pharmaceutical, and food and beverage manufacturing sites
  • Develop legal registers, protocols and programs to support EHS management systems
  • Perform EHS compliance assessments at industrial and commercial facilities, and implement follow-up corrective actions to ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulations
  • Assist in data interpretation and preparation of site work plans, spreadsheets, figures and technical reports
  • Participate in multiple projects concurrently within strict timeframes, scope/budget expectations, and meet high quality standards on project deliverables
  • Support permitting and permit applications/packages
  • Support environmental due diligence project teams in carrying out industrial and commercial transactions, including Phase I Environmental Site Assessments consistent with ASTM and CSA standards
  • Conduct field work, including air quality, soil, sediment, groundwater, and surface water sampling
  • Cross-collaborate with various teams across ERM Canada

Preferred Qualifications

  • Third- or fourth-year students are preferred
  • Previous experience in government, and/or mining, industrial, or manufacturing sectors are considered assets
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Powerpoint, Excel) is considered an asset
  • Bilingual (French/English) is preferred
