Integrated Water Resources Specialist

Requirements

• 6 years of experience in a natural resource or environmental field
• 1 year of experience at a technical or professional level performing activities in a natural resource program such as researching and analyzing data, conducting investigations, applying pertinent laws and regulations, or coordinating and monitoring project activities
• Bachelor’s degree in physical science, environmental science, natural resources, or a closely related field may substitute for 3 of the required years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Support the agency in achieving the goals of the Integrated Water Resources (IWR) Strategy in DEQ’s Eastern Region
• Provide technical assistance and water quality information during the development of local integrated water resource plans
• Work closely with DEQ staff and other agencies to review applications and make recommendations on grant funding
• Work with agency staff, tribal governments, local officials, and other interested parties to improve coordination and implementation of DEQ’s IWR program processes related to water quality and water quantity
• Develop tools, procedures, guidelines, and other resources to support DEQ’s statewide IWR Program.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated understanding of environmental justice and the historical impacts for marginalized and underrepresented communities
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Program improvement experience
• Experience working with the laws, procedures, principles, and regulations governing Federal and State water quality programs
• Experience evaluating water quality data using statistical and other analytical methods
• Experience conducting field work, environmental sampling, and/or inspections
• Experience with project management, including time constrained projects, and program development and implementation
• Demonstrated experience building and fostering relationships with a diverse group of partners.
