Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 4 years of experience in a related field
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC) – Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC)
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC) – Must obtain within 3 years of hire
Responsibilities
- Surveils hospital units for nosocomial infections.
- Develops monthly, quarterly and annual reports on infection rates as deemed appropriate by medical staff committees.
- With the Epidemiologist assistance, maintains infection control compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
- Creates and reviews hospital and departmental infection control policies and procedures.
- Reviews annually policies on departmental infection control, Bloodborne and Tuberculosis Exposure Control plans and monitors compliance.
- Provides continuing education for infection control through new employee orientation and by providing current reference materials as needed.
- Investigates the more complex outbreaks or clusters of nosocomial or unusual infections and reports clusters to appropriate medical staff committees. Reviews microbiology records to identify resistant isolates. Reviews surveillance data to identify trends in hospital infections and helps develop risk reduction strategies.
- Reports communicable diseases and acts as a consultant to the Employee Health Service. Assists in the investigation of communicable disease per Arkansas Health Department regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
