Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or a related field (Master’s is a plus)
- CPA Certified
- 8 to 10+ years of experience in indirect tax, particularly in managing audits and resolving tax disputes
- Skilled at working with external tax service providers and building strong working relationships
- Solid knowledge of U.S. state and local tax rules and regulations
- Demonstrated success in negotiating and resolving complex tax issues
- Strong communicator with leadership experience and a strategic mindset
Responsibilities
- Lead all aspects of state and local indirect tax audits, planning efforts, and controversy matters
- Act as the main point of contact for our outsourced indirect tax compliance provider, ensuring smooth coordination and communication
- Handle complex indirect tax research to help the company stay compliant with evolving state and local tax laws
- Represent UPS in discussions and disputes with state tax authorities, aiming to resolve issues quickly, efficiently, and in the company’s best interest
- Work closely with internal tax teams, outside counsel, and consultants to manage tax cases and develop smart, strategic approaches
- Advise internal teams on potential indirect tax risks and help shape strategies to manage exposure
- Drive process improvements and support the development of policies to strengthen tax compliance and reporting practices
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a large corporate tax department
- Background in a Big 4 or public accounting environment
