Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent education and work experience required.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in student services, teaching, counseling, overseas development work, or a closely related field.
  • Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong service orientation.
  • Aptitude in working with computer software packages such as word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications (e.g., Sunapsis).
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Responsibilities

  • Advise international students and scholars on immigration-related questions, including F-1 and J-1 visa categories.
  • Provide information and referrals on general issues affecting international populations.
  • Enter and update records in both university and government databases to generate immigration documents.
  • Process immigration forms for student requests, including work authorization applications and document reprints.
  • Respond to inquiries via email, phone, and in person at the front desk.
  • Support pre-arrival, admissions, and status activation communications and casework for F-1 and J-1 students in coordination with the Assistant Director.
  • Conduct outreach to recent graduates to ensure compliance with federal reporting requirements related to OPT and STEM OPT extensions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
  • Ability to interpret government regulatory language.
  • Second language skills highly desirable.
  • International student and/or scholar services experience and familiarity with Cornell University desirable.
  • Proficiency in PeopleSoft, Sunapsis, or similar software.
