Requirements
- HS Diploma: High School Diploma or General Education (GED)
- 1 year recent relevant experience
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge and technical competence in specimen collection and preparation, laboratory operations, and quality assurance in histology
- Ability to organize and prioritize job duties and assigned tasks for completion within expected time-frames
- Ability to accurately, precisely, and reliably perform job duties and assigned tasks
- Ability to compassionately and effectively interact with individuals and groups of diverse ages, backgrounds, values, beliefs and behaviors
- Ability to appropriately respond to fluctuations in volume, unexpected situations or problems such as equipment or information system failures, shift-to-shift hand-offs, priority test orders, and specimen integrity issues
- Ability to follow standard practices, processes, and procedures in sequence
- Knowledge of applicable local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures aimed at ensuring the privacy and safety of patients.
Responsibilities
- Integrates knowledge, theory and practice to properly execute procedures in assigned areas of Pathology
- Maintains competence in all routine histology procedures (e.g., embedding, sectioning, and routine automated staining) and advanced histology procedures (e.g., immunohistochemistry and histochemical staining)
- Routine maintenance; slide/stain quality control; and basic troubleshooting
- Receiving, preparing, archiving and/or retrieving specimen/material
- Preparing and or stocking department supplies and reagents
- Performing quality assurance tasks
- Producing frozen sections from specimens
- Conducting training for routine histology practices.
