Requirements

  • Two years of heavy-duty and off-road equipment mechanic experience
  • Must possess a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) issued by the state of Arizona
  • Must undergo drug and alcohol testing before employment and will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout employment per County policy and FTA Regulations
  • Must possess or can obtain the necessary emission certification through the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) within 90 days of hire to perform emissions testing and compliance activities; obtaining this certification is a condition of employment
  • Must possess the tools required to perform maintenance and repairs on heavy trucks and equipment in an efficient manner

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, and perform complex repairs on heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, including engine systems, electrical/electronic components, braking, climate control, drivetrain, suspension, and body systems; test for proper operation and estimate repair time and cost
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on all vehicles, including oil and filter changes, equipment inspections, and thorough annual inspections on vehicles exceeding 24,000 pounds GVW in accordance with Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) regulations to ensure safety compliance and operational readiness
  • Perform minor metal and material fabrication using appropriate tools and equipment to modify, repair, or reinforce heavy-duty vehicle and equipment components in accordance with operational and safety standards
  • Promote and maintain a safe and compliant work environment by upholding safety standards, maintaining shop cleanliness, and proactively identifying and reporting hazards to leadership
  • Maintain service records and repair documentation, including work orders, labor estimates, expenditures, and project status, for input into the fleet tracking system
  • Consult with supervisors on vehicle problems, diagnostic issues, and performance
  • Other job duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

  • Class A or B CDL with a Hazmat endorsement
  • Completion of a recognized heavy-duty equipment/diesel technician training program
