Requirements

  • Possession of a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Government Financial Manager certificate AND two years of accounting experience equivalent to Accountant 1 work to include setting-up ledgers, account codes and controls, and modifying accounting systems.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or in any discipline that includes or is supplemented by 32 quarter (21 semester) credit hours from an accredited institution in Accounting AND two years of accounting experience equivalent to Accountant 1 work to include setting-up ledgers, account codes and controls, and modifying accounting systems.
  • 32 quarter (21 semester) credit hours from an accredited institution in Accounting AND four years of related accounting experience to include a) classifying, analyzing, and reconciling financial data and records; b) designing, recommending, and installing modifications of accounting methods, procedures, forms, and records; c) preparing financial statements and reports; d) analyzing and interpreting laws, regulations, codes, and ordinances to ensure the legality of financial transactions; and e) analyzing, interpreting, and making recommendations related to accounting transactions, accounts, and account relationships resulting in accounting entries.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight of the accounting, reporting, compliance, and internal controls relating to federal and state grants from many different funding agencies.
  • Monitor federal and state grants to ensure maximized use of agency revenue against expenditures.
  • Work with interrelated accounts in multiple accounting systems, evaluate and enter GL transactions, locate changes to accounts, reconcile accounts, analyze accounting transactions, prepare reports, and maintain accounting controls.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience providing oversight of the accounting, reporting, compliance, and internal controls relating to federal and state grants from many different funding agencies.
  • Ability to monitor federal and state grants to ensure maximized use of agency revenue against expenditures and seek to understand program operations to achieve shared goals.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze state and federal statutes, regulations, and legislative bills with the ability to determine the impact of changes, demonstrating critical thinking and analytical skillsets.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, ability to manage deadlines, attention to detail, ability to multi-task, ensure follow-through on multiple open items at once, and pivot between competing priorities as needed.
  • Skilled in excel, including spreadsheet and report creation, pivot tables, data querying, conditional formatting, advanced formulas, financial forecasting, and analytical research methods.
  • Work with various subsystems, complete complex reconciliations comparing multiple data sources and control totals, ensure transactions are compliant with policies and federal and state requirements, and work with others to resolve variances.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with multiple stakeholders, demonstrate professionalism in all communication, and able to train staff and management throughout the agency as needed.
