Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 4 years’ experience or Master’s degree with 2 years’ experience in geophysics, physics, electrical engineering, earth science, or related field
  • Experience or aptitude for electronic, mechanical and power system configuration and maintenance
  • Experience or aptitude in deployment, debug and configuration of seismic instruments
  • Experience or aptitude in analyzing instrument performance remotely, via radio and cell networks, to determine maintenance needs
  • Ability to maintain accurate inventory, bill of materials and maintenance records
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in groups and independently, sometimes in demanding conditions
  • Ability to manage complex systems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and deliverables
  • Professional demeanor and excellent interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

  • Preparing instruments and equipment for seismic station deployment and maintenance field trips
  • Repairing failed equipment for characterizing failures for return to manufacturer
  • Documenting field activities, such as failures found, method of repair and instruments replaced and deployed
  • Deployment and maintenance of seismic stations and scouting new sites for station deployment
  • Monitoring and maintaining supplies inventory, placing orders as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • More than the required years of experience, with specific background and hands-on experience with geophysical equipment and earthquake location software (e.g., SeisComP, Antelope, Seisan, Earthworm)
  • Experience with electronic, mechanical and power system configuration and maintenance
  • Experience with deployment, debug and configuration of seismic instruments
  • Experience with analyzing instrument performance remotely, via radio and cell networks, to determine maintenance needs; preparing modem datalogger and sensor configurations
  • Willingness and ability to adapt to changing research programs and project needs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
