Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate, licensed to practice law in Oregon and in good standing
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, have verification of current auto insurance and have full use of automobile during work hours
  • Must be able to pass extensive Background Check
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience as a legal assistant / law clerk / paralegal in family law is required; preference will be given to candidates with at least 1 year of experience as a family law attorney.
  • Licensure with the Oregon State Bar
  • Trauma Informed Care: Ability to utilize trauma-informed practices in providing compassionate representation to community members
  • Strong attention to detail: Demonstrated ability to review and process complex information accurately, identify inconsistencies, and ensure all documentation and filings are complete, compliant, and timely
  • Legal Research: Skilled in identifying relevant statutes, regulations, and case law; synthesizing complex legal information; and preparing well-organized summaries to support legal strategy and client advocacy
  • Case management: Proficient in managing multiple cases simultaneously by maintaining organized records, tracking deadlines, prioritizing tasks, and coordinating with supervisors, intake staff, and/or legal assistants to ensure effective and efficient service delivery

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal consultations and brief limited legal services or full-scope representation to survivors of domestic/dating violence, sexual assault, and/or stalking in family law matters arising from or related to the abuse.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed case records, including client information, case notes, court documents, etc. on IRCO’s and SALC’s case management software in compliance with any standards set by IRCO, SALC, regulatory bodies, and family law industry standards.
  • Provide trauma-informed services to clients to keep them informed regarding their legal matter and their legal rights
  • Support the Legal Services Sector Manager to establish a standard operating procedure for the Family Law Services program, including effective and efficient procedures for screening, consultations, legal services agreements, case management, incoming and outgoing mail, and case closing.
  • Contribute to conversations about the impact of family law services with private and public funders. Work with the Legal Services Sector Manager to support proposals made to various funders.
